Dr. Thinky will begin giving away Gmail accounts shortly...

OK people, settle down.

As the world's leading Super Genius I was asked early on by the folks at Google to review their Gmail email system. As you may have heard, Gmail allows you to search messages, blocks spam and gives you 1 GB of storage, blah, blah, blah... it's not like they created Thinkum or anything.

Anyways, as you are aware, non-geniuses flock like lemmings at these sorts of "new" and "revolutionary" products and services and attempt to grab them like they're the last Twinkie in Wal-Mart. Unfortunately for you lemmings, there are no Twinkies in Wal-Mart in this instance: Gmail is available by invite only - you have to be a Super Genius or know one to get into this party.

Well, you may not be Super Geniuses, but you definitely know one. I have quite a collection of Gmail invites to pass out and I am announcing a contest. The winners will receive invites to create their own exclusive Gmail accounts before other pathetic non-genius lemmings join in and steal all the good screen names.

The only question is: what is the contest? My IQ is simply too high to communicate with the average man. If I were to offer a challenging contest you all would surely fail miserably and nobody would win the Gmail accounts. Therefore I am asking for your suggestions. Email me or post your suggestions as comments. I will choose the best suggestion as the contest.

We will begin on Tuesday, June 15.

That is all. The Russian models await.

ooo! ooo! pick me, pick me! *waves hand feverishly in the air*
ummmm, i will forever be grateful for your generousity.
please?

if not, could the contest be:
the first (however many invites you have) people to comment on this post?

YEah I agree with the first come first serve...the contests are getting old.
I would like one also

11 Jun 2004 | ranger added...

I agree with the first come first serve deal.

11 Jun 2004 | Jen added...

I know, I know! How about some kind of math contest. We can guess your age, or your weight, or your height. You look to be in your mid to late 20s, but geniuses probably age differently...???

11 Jun 2004 | Laserone added...

I vote for first come first served. :) I also liked a.wholelottanothing.org's photo contest idea.

11 Jun 2004 | christine d. added...

If I made up a contest; nobody would win either.

11 Jun 2004 | erik added...

what if we each delivered a dissertation on the subject of our choice. whoever presents the most compelling argument would win the prize. you'd be a great judge, being that you're a genius and all...

12 Jun 2004 | Javi Loureiro added...

We can go find the most stupid answer to a question on any exam. Picture of the exam with the QA attached as evidence, of course.

12 Jun 2004 | Judson added...

I'd like to try out this new-fangled G-Mail system as well!

12 Jun 2004 | Andrew Sidwell added...

I think the contest should be nice and easy:

You think of a number between 1 and 1x10**10. The cloest guesses win the account.

12 Jun 2004 | Andrew Sidwell added...

That should be between 1 and 1*10**10 (ie 10 000 000 000), even.

And I accidentally put my email address in plaintext for the first time. Whoops. *awaits the first piece of spam*

12 Jun 2004 | Tim Deniston added...

How about a "Best Pick-up Lines Every Genius Should Use" contest?

12 Jun 2004 | Micah Goulart added...

Add a photo then ask for captions submitted by your viewers here.

Or ask for a Gmail logo contest made in a certain size, kind of like a Google-logo remake.

Or have a Gmail catchphrase contest.

Or the best gmail username...

the possibilities are endless.

12 Jun 2004 | DAVE added...

In a rare burst impulsiveness, give it to random people who visit your blog.

13 Jun 2004 | Larry Doughton added...

You can set up a contest and have people guess:
How many days JLO's marriage will last?
How many days before the election George W. pulls Osama out of the cell he has him in and tells the world he finally captured him?
The number of cities that will eventually have a CSI show?
ect ect ect.

Or you can just give me an invite for having the dumbest ideas on this board.

Aloha

What's this Gmail thing everyone's talking about? Does it vibrate?

13 Jun 2004 | Swami Prem added...

I would like to suggest an essay contest.

13 Jun 2004 | Alucard added...

I agree that the invite thing is getting old. (Of course, I have my own domain so no need for Gmail.) Is it beta or is it ready for primetime? This seems more like someone's grad project on the degrees of separation or a new version of the chain letter. Get five thousand people with three invites each, how many are used, who knows whom, how long can the chain be kept going ,etc.

Because really, they could have opened up Gmail with the beta caveat and people still would have flocked. So why the invite nonsense? Sure, it's a great marketing ploy but there has to be something more than that since Google is still the hottest thing going.

14 Jun 2004 | David Dorward added...

Obviously, the most interesting contest would be "Who has the name with the most characters in common with the random string 'David Dorward'?"

14 Jun 2004 | Doug added...

Ask for the best humorous jokes. :)

14 Jun 2004 | Ron added...

Screw the contest. Just give it to me and let's be done with it.

Geez...is this so hard?

Ron

14 Jun 2004 | Mary added...

Ask for an act of kindness ...
a donation to a charity you favor or
a donation of time to a good cause or
a commitment to help those who most need it..

I know ... this isn't original
Jonas is doing it, but don't let that take
the wind out of your sails...

after all, GREAT minds think alike!

14 Jun 2004 | Piil added...

How about 10 trivia questions?
First one to answer all 10 correctly wins...

14 Jun 2004 | Beth added...

How about best idea for a movie?

14 Jun 2004 | Nate added...

Most creative/amusing prospective gmail account names wins the invites. Here it goes:

supercalifragilisticexpealidocious@gmail.com

15 Jun 2004 | Neczy added...

Alright I have a contest Idea.

What about a thinkum blog redesign contest? where the person designs an alternate style for your site, that is valid, not ripping anyone off and is original. Then the winning design gets a gmail invite and gets to have the privilege of knowing that they got to add to an ingenious site 8^)

Thanks for your time!

~Neczy

16 Jun 2004 | John added...

hmmm... having seen the number of contests that are around at the moment, how about a contest to guess the number of currently active contests to win an invite to Gmail?

If I entered them all, (and won, of course), I'd end up with enough Gmail invites that I could start my *own* contest.

Surely theres' a 'six degrees of separation' thing going on here - how far down the chain are you from the first person to have a Gmail account?

16 Jun 2004 | Fane added...

What about this: suppose gmail era is history...what would be the next coolest thing Google does and get waaaaaaaaaaay ahead anybody else?

16 Jun 2004 | sunish added...

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............................okkkk.........as you have a very very high IQ to communicate with an average person...............so the contest can be to predict the accurate or absolute value of your IQ.first one to answer it winssssss........

16 Jun 2004 | Aminta added...

I vote simple, straightforward math puzzle.

Given twelve identical coins, eleven of which are of similar mass and one of which is different -- either heavier or light, you don't know -- and three weighs with a balance, how do you find the odd coin?

Noooo, of course I wouldn't have an advantage because I already know the answer. *tries to look innocent*

17 Jun 2004 | Matt added...

How about some kind of random drawing
or a gMail treasure hunt
or even a logic test

17 Jun 2004 | Kevin Brown added...

I can't imagine anything short of a solution to provide world peace being adequate to secure a most coveted Gmail account!

My guess is anything swapped for this brass ring will quickly tarnish and fade away. This type of an account will far outlast even the Energizer Bunny.

18 Jun 2004 | Nate added...

Geez, for someone so smart, you would think you could have thought of a contest by now.
I've already found one (for free) elswhere. Thanks anyway!

Q) What would it take to stop entering gmail contests to win an account?
Ans) A Gmail account

Contest Question: How many invites have been sent my google till date
Best Regards

21 Jun 2004 | Don added...

How about people guessing how many cow pies George Bush would have to step in before he realizes he's back in Texas? (Prize winner announced at forum on economic globalization and war that's being held on Aug 7 during Peace Corps Association 25th Anniversary conference, Chicago. Info: www.geocities.com/vfmok.)

How, oh how, do we keep Dr. Thinky's ego from overheating before he gets around to distributing gmails to those most deserving of his largess

01 Jul 2004 | Chris Topinka added...

What's this acts of kindness and quizzery? The question should be to what degree are you willing to ingratiate yourself at the feet of the great genius and how can you humiliate yourself more than taking the time to fill out another stupid form for some proprietary crap?
